"Well, I’ve got news for you, Dr. Carson. “In God We Trust” was first added to coins in the U.S. in 1864– nearly a century after America defeated Great Britain to become its own nation. It did not grace paper currency until 1957. Further, it did not replace E Pluribus Unum (“out of many, one”) as the national motto until 1956 during the Cold war, which took place roughly 60 years ago. Also, “Under God” was not added to the Pledge of Allegiance until 1954."
